What it is
PostgreSQL is WebGrow24's default database for every project that needs structured relational data. We use it for transactional systems where ACID compliance is non-negotiable, for analytics workloads that benefit from window functions and CTEs, and for full-text search where we need results ranked by relevance rather than simple string matching. PostgreSQL's JSONB support bridges the gap when we need schema flexibility without abandoning the relational model, letting us store webhook payloads or user preferences as JSON while still querying them with SQL. The Indian SMB context adds specific pressures: GST reconciliation requires accurate decimal arithmetic where floating-point rounding breaks compliance, UPI transaction IDs need indexed VARCHAR fields, and audit logs need range types to represent time intervals without timezone ambiguity. PostgreSQL handles all of these natively. We run Postgres on managed services like Supabase or Neon for projects where we don't want to manage infrastructure, and on self-hosted Dokploy instances for clients who prefer INR pricing on their own cloud bills. We avoid Postgres for pure document workloads where MongoDB's flexible schema and array filters make more sense, and for time-series data where TimescaleDB's automatic partitioning outperforms a vanilla Postgres setup.
