What it is
LangChain is our default orchestration framework for AI applications that go beyond single-prompt responses. It handles the hard parts of LLM integration: managing conversation history, chaining multiple model calls, routing between tools, and retrieving relevant context from a vector store for retrieval-augmented generation. WebGrow24 uses LangChain when building RAG systems that need to answer questions about a client's private documents, agentic workflows where an AI decides between multiple tools like searching the web, querying a database, and sending an email, and multi-step reasoning pipelines where the output of one model call feeds the next. The framework's abstraction layer means we can swap the underlying model provider—OpenAI, Anthropic, or an open-source model—without rewriting the application logic, which protects clients from being locked into a single provider's pricing or capability trajectory. For Indian SMBs, LangChain matters when the business workflow involves connecting an AI to Indian-language documents, local databases, or government portals that require structured data extraction. The Python-first ecosystem aligns well with our data engineering practice, while the JavaScript library serves teams building Next.js-integrated AI features. We avoid LangChain when the application is a simple single-prompt use case that does not need conversation history or tool use—the overhead of the framework is not justified for one-shot completions.
